I am watching Michael Palin's Full Circle. While visiting Bolivia, Palin noted its navy. Bolivia lost its access to the sea in the War of the Pacific (1879-83) against Chile. However, it has kept its hopes alive by keeping a navy. The now-landlocked country has most of its fleet on Lake Titicaca. Here is a picture of Evo Morales with the head of the Bolivian navy on Titicaca.
This led me to wonder, what other landlocked countries have navies? Of course, they would be relegated to patrolling and defending lakes and rivers. Fortunately, The Economist came up with this chart a couple of years ago. Who knew that Bolivia, on paper, has the most powerful landlocked navy in the world?
