Carspotting (38): Mercedes 280GE Gelandewagen

This car was also parked in front of Sausalito's Le Garage.  Mercedes did not start selling the Gelandewagen here in America until 2002.  Worse yet, two-door models were never officially imported here.  Before 2002, a few grey market models were sold thanks to an outfit in New Mexico.  They cost $135,000 and were owned by the likes of Bill Cosby and Lil Kim.

This example came from France, but I have no idea when it arrived here.
