Old Olds 442 versus newer Olds 442

I saw a cherry red 1990-91 Olds 442 pass me on the freeway yesterday.  I remarked that that POS would make an excellent entry at next week's Concours de Lemons.  Then I thought-- I assume that compact coupe has a Quad 4 engine.  So how did GM get away with calling it a 442, a legendary 1960s muscle car?

Well, the original 442 got its name from its 4 barrel carb, 4 speed transmission, and 2 exhaust pipes.

And the newer model?  4 cylinders, 4 valves per cylinder, 2 camshafts.  Weak.
